NBA and Sony Six launch NBA JAM in India

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Sony Six have jointly announced the launch of NBA Jam in September in the cities of Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. This basketball festival is a free event that includes 3-on-3 basketball matches.

The 3-on-3 tournament will conclude with national finals in Mumbai on September 29. The winning team will get a chance to meet and compete against three NBA Legends.

Two-time defending NBA Champion Chris Bosh, of Miami Heat, announced the 2013 NBA Jam schedule in Mumbai during his four-day visit.

“NBA Jam is a great event that brings the excitement and energy of the NBA to fans in India,” said Bosh. “It is exciting to see so much passion for basketball here and I look forward to working with youth during my visit.”

Yannick Colaco, Managing Director NBA India, said: “NBA Jam will engage both the passionate and casual fan with a mix of basketball and live entertainment, Sony Six is an ideal partner that is committed to developing basketball further in India, and we are excited to bring an authentic NBA experience to fans across India.”

The 3-on-3 tournament will see nearly 500 teams participate and will include women’s divisions for the first time. In each city, approximately 120 teams will compete in the age group of 16-18 and 19-23. Winning teams from each city will be invited to the National Finals in Mumbai.

COO of MSM, NP Singh, on this new initiative, said: “NBA Jam will not only boost Basketball participation in the country, but also strengthen the footprint of sports and drive viewership for NBA programs.”

Sony Six, the league’s broadcast partner in India, will create the content around each participating city and will air a 60-minute program on the National Finals.

Hyderabad: August 25, 2013 |Bangalore: September 2, 2013

Delhi: September 9, 2013 |Mumbai: September 16, 2013
