Nagpur Chess Open with Rs 15-lakh Prize Money from Oct 15

More than 250 chess wizards, including 17 foreigners, are expected to take part in the Rs 15.36 lakh prize money International Grand Masters Open Chess Tournament beginning here from October 15. The nine-day tournament is being organised by Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), a local development agency. Indian challenge will be led by GM Deepan Chakkravarthy (rating 2521), GM Abhijeet Kunte (2519), GM R R Laxman, Sahej Grover (2514 each), WGM Swati Ghate, WGM Nisha Mohota and WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty, among others, Praveen Darade, NIT Chairman, told a press conference here today.
The tournament would be played as per FIDE laws of chess and Swiss Fide system, he said. The five foreign players among 17 invited who have confirmed their participation are Kravtsiv Martin (Ukraine & rating 2582), Andriy Vovk (Ukraine-2549), Kirill Stupak (Belarus-2523), Daniil Linchevskiy (Russia-2558) and Ziaur Rehman (Bangladesh-2516), Darade added.
