BPL: Mosharraf Hossain helps Dhaka Dynamites defeat Chittagong Vikings

Amir got Mohd. Hafeez’s wicket but was not able to win the match for his team

Dhaka Dynamites defeated Chittagong Vikings by 45 runs in the 25th Â?Â?match of the Bangladesh Premier League, which was yet another low-scoring affair.

The Vikings won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium where bowling first has become a necessity given the fickle nature of the pitch. Surprisingly, Pakistan’s leg-spinner Yasir Shah was sent to open the innings with Shykat Ali.

The experiment did not pay off as both the openers were sent packing in consecutive overs with the score at 13 runs. Mohammad Hafeez walked out to play his first match of the Bangladesh Premier League 2015, however, he managed just a single run before edging a Mohammad Amir delivery in the hands of keeper Anamul Haque while trying to leave the ball.

The Dynamites desperately needed Kumar Sangakkara to step up and save the team from an alarming situation. The Sri Lankan legend scored 38 runs in 36 balls to steady the ship and got out in the 17th over with 91 runs on the board.

It needed a late flourish from Malcolm Waller, 19(10), to take the team to a defendable total of 121 runs. The second highest scorer for the dynamites was Mosaddek Hossain with 24 runs, he added 56 runs for the fifth wicket with Sangakkara.

Mohammad Amir was the pick of bowlers with a figure of 4-1-18-3. Shafiul Islam picked three wickets as well and gave away only 21 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

Vikings boast a remarkable opening pair in Tamim Iqbal and Tillakaratne Dilshan, and to chase the total the team needed one of them to fire. However, it was not the case as both the batsmen were ousted by the third over.

Left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain wrecked havoc as he bagged four wickets, including an all important wicket of Umar Akmal, who was his team’s highest scorer with 14 runs. Only two other players managed a score in double figures as they were bundled with only 76 runs on the board. Ziaur Rehman was injured and did not walk out to bat.

The defeat means Chittagong Vikings are in last place in the league table, with Dhaka Dynamites in fourth position.
