Pakistan Tehreek-i-insaf, the political party founded by Imran Khan, is all set to host its own T20 cricket league

In a first of its kind move, World Cup winning captain and current politician Imran Khan’s party Pakistan’s Tehreek-i-insaf (PTI) is all set to launch its own T20 league in Pakistan. Probably the first cricket league hosted by a political party, the league has been named ‘Love 20 League’.

Pakistan cricketers will be undergoing a training camp at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore starting May 6, and PTI has written a letter to PCB chief Najam Sethi to allow some star cricketers to skip the camp in order to participate in the proposed league, DAWN reported.

Pakistan’s star cricketers like Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan are expected to play in this league. According to DAWN, PTI has also asked for the availability of Karachi’s National Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Rawalpindi Stadium and Peshawar’s Arbab Niaz Stadium to host the league.

The league was earlier planned to be held from May 3 to 18, but will now commence from May 18 and end on June 3 after Imran Khan got a “no objection” from the Pakistan Cricket Board, NDTV said.

Pakistan has been facing an international ban from hosting cricket matches since the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009. NDTV now reports that PTI has convinced the likes of Sir Viv Richards and Ravi Shastri to participate in an exhibition match during the tournament in Lahore.
