MS Dhoni wrongly fined, Mustafizur Rahman at fault: Sanjay Manjrekar

Cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar took to Twitter on Friday to express his dismay over the fine imposed on skipper M.S. Dhoni, after he pushed the Bangladeshi debutant, Mustafizur Rahman, during the first ODI against hosts Bangladesh at Dhaka on Thursday.

Dhoni and the left-arm bowler were summoned by match referee Andy Pycroft, and were fined 75% of their match fee after their on-field collision. It seemed as though the bowler had done it deliberately, as this was the second instance that the bowler had come in the way of the striker running towards the other end.

Manjrekar was not happy with this decision and stated that the Indian captain was wrongly fined as the bowler came in the way of the running batsmen twice.

“Skipper Dhoni along with administrative manager Biswarup Dey were present during the hearing. Now Mustafizur along with members of team management have gone into present their case. The Indian team management is hoping for Level I charge to be pressed against Dhoni so that it ends with a fine only. A Level 2 offence may lead to ban,” a source told PTI.
