Union sports ministry wants Rahul Dravid to be a part of expert committee for Olympics talent hunt

Rahul Dravid

The Union sports ministry has expressed its interest in acquiring the services of retired Indian cricket player Rahul Dravid, which will see him becoming a part of the expert committee in charge of spotting possible medal winning talents for the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, a project of the newly formed central government.

If reports by the Times of India are to be believed, the 41-year-old has replied in affirmative. The panel, which could comprise of big-name media personalities in addition to some of the successful sports persons the country has ever produced, could well see him even becoming the head.

One of TOI’s sources said: “Yes. We are keen on roping in Dravid. We have initiated talks at an informal level. Dravid too has reacted positively to our request. Nothing has been firmed up yet."

The source added: “We wanted to have an elite committee outside of the ministry so that we could take our plans of fostering talent forward without a hitch. We need reputable people on the panel so that when they select medal prospects people should believe that it is the right choice."
