Video: Sunil Gavaskar reflects on playing at Lord's Cricket Ground

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar was one of the first great batsman to emerge from India, and inspired a whole generation of youngsters in the country to take up the sport courtesy of his exploits in the game over his 16-year international career. He scored 10,122 runs from 125 Tests at an average of 51.12, thereby becoming the first batsman to amass over 10,000 runs in the longer format.

He was also a part of India’s successful World Cup campaign in 1983, where they beat the mighty West Indians in the final to perhaps change the course of Indian cricket for ever.

Considering that Gavaskar racked up a truckload of runs at numerous venues, what is surprising is that he has never able to reach the same heights at Lord’s, scoring just 340 runs from 5 Tests at an average below 35.
