FIFA 19 Winter Upgrades: 5 Premier League players who deserve an upgrade but won't get it

The winter rating refresh is set to take place this month and a lot of players are in contention to get an upgrade. While there are a few who might get a downgrade too, the talk of the town is always about the players who will get their ratings boosted.

It is literally impossible for EA to hand out an upgrade to all the players who deserve one. Here’s a look at the 5 Premier League players who are likely to be snubbed by EA in the winter rating refresh:

#5 – Aymeric Laporte

Everton FC v Manchester City - Premier League

Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Leroy Sane may be stealing the limelight at Manchester City but it is Aymeric Laporte's crucial performances that have got them in top gear. The French defender has been on top of his game for the majority of the season and whenever given a chance by Pep Guardiola, he has always delivered.

Laporte is rated at 83 in FIFA 19 and going by his performances on the pitch it is nothing close to what he is supposed to be at. However, with the ratings refresh happening this month, he might just miss out on an upgrade.

#4 – Matt Doherty

Newcastle United v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Premier League

Just like Laporte at Manchester City, nobody seems to notice the brilliance of Matt Doherty at Wolverhampton. The left wing-back has been amazing this season and has made sure that they have not conceded a lot of goals.

Rated at just 74 – a silver-rare card – Doherty should be getting a good bost. However, EA might opt to ignore him with Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota being the 3 Wolves players who might get the upgrade.

#3 – Paul Pogba

Manchester United v Burnley FC - Premier League

Paul Pogba is rated at 88 in FIFA 19 but going by his recent performances, many players will argue that he deserves to be on par with Kevin de Bruyne at 91. However, there is no way EA will hand him such a huge boost, maybe not even in FIFA 20.

His first half of the season was dull and that might just be the reason why he wouldn't get an upgrade. Come FIFA 20, he might be pushed to 89 or even 90, but he still won't be the top rated Premier League midfielder in the game.

#2 – Sadio Mane

Liverpool v Hull City - Premier League

Sadio Mane started off the season brilliantly but faded away in the middle. He is back in top form but that might just not be enough to earn him an upgrade. He would have easily been one of the first to get an upgrade had he performed consistently.

Rated at 86 in FIFA 19, Mane is likely to remain at the same rating for now. Come FIFA 20, he might get a push to 87 and nothing higher as he has not done anything so far to earn a massive upgrade.

#1 – Harry Kane

Harry Kane is easily the best English striker in recent years. Alan Shearer himself said that he sees the Tottenham star as a threat to his Premier League goal-scoring record but an injury and fatigue has slowed down his progress.

The Spurs superman has a rating of 89 in FIFA 19 and had he performed like he did last season, he might have just got an upgrade this winter refresh too. However, he has not done anything extraordinary and is set to remain at 89 for the time being.

English fans were fuming that Kane was rated lower than Suarez and Lewandowski, but looking at the way the three have played this season, EA seems to have gotten the ratings spot on.

Should Kane, somehow, win the Golden Boot once again, he will definitely move to 90 or even 91 in FIFA 20.
