Whether ranked or unranked, players can use the voice chat in Overwatch 2 to better communicate with their teammates. It is a 5v5 PvP hero shooter after all, meaning things always tether on the edge of chaos, so is not uncommon to see the tide of battle turn in the blink of an eye. While the existing ping solution is solid enough, higher-ranked matches certainly can do with verbal communication.

In-game voice chat is achieved by joining team groups but the process to do so can be a tad cumbersome to grasp at first.

This guide will help players, especially new ones arriving at the peak of Season 10, to become intimately familiar with how voice chat in Overwatch 2 works.

Before players dive into voice chat in Overwatch 2, they must sort out their voice settings first. This is done by going to Options under the Menu, then the Sound tab under which the Voice Chat section lies.

Besides the obvious in-game VC and user mic volume, the notable settings include:

  • Group Voice Chat: Toggle private group voice chat on or off (indicated in green)
  • Team Voice Chat: Toggle voice for the player team on or off (highlighted in blue)
  • Match Voice Chat: Toggle all-player voice chat for the match on or of (shown in red)
  • Voice Chat Mode: Can be toggled between Open Mic or Push to Talk

If players have any or all of these options set to Off, they will be unable to join voice chat in Overwatch 2 for that group. On the flip side, Text Chat for all groups is on by default but that isn't what we're here to discuss.

Coming to the key aspect of joining voice chat, here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Social tab then go to Groups.
  2. Here players will be able to see the groups to communicate with whether team members or all players.
  3. Click on the headphone icon to join that group.
  4. This will let them join the voice chat and communicate with group members.

Note that depending on whether players have push-to-talk enabled or open mic, they will have to either press a button to transmit their voice or not.

Overwatch 2 Season 10 is live right now and here is everything players need to know about it. The game is available as a free-to-play experience on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
