The agent of Thomas Vermaelen has refuted suggestions that a deal is in place for him to move from Arsenal to Manchester United this summer, but did has claimed that there are no other offers on the table for the Belgian defender currently.

Reports on Monday had suggested that Vermaelen has reportedly already agreed personal terms with Man United ahead of a surprise move from the Gunners this summer, with the potential of a swap deal taking place between the two clubs.

Arsenal are believed to have enquired about the potential of having either Tom Cleverley or Chris Smalling included in any deal that might take place between the two title rivals, with the pair believed to be of interest to manager Arsene Wenger.

Vermaelen is thought to have become a target of United under the recommendation of Robin Van Persie, who thinks highly of the Belgian from their time together at Arsenal and has informed incoming Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal that he would represent a fine signing.

Some sources had claimed Vermaelen had agreed personal terms with United already, but his agent, Kees Vos, has told reporters, “no deal is in place with Manchester United, or any other club.”

The centre-back is believed to be unsettled at Arsenal and contemplating leaving the club after the World Cup, having grown unhappy with a lack of playing time at the Emirates, with Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker having emerged as the first choice defensive pairing for the Gunners.

Thomas Vermaelen won 32 headed duels in 14 appearances last season, emerging victorious in 62% of his aerial battles.
