Barcelona looking to launch a bid for Vincent Kompany

Manchester City v Newcastle United - Premier League

Barcelona are set to launch a big money bid for Manchester City and Belgium defender Vincent Kompany. The City captain signed a long-term deal recently, but that won’t stop Barcelona.

With Carles Puyol, 34, injured and in the last few years of his career, Barcelona are desperately seeking a world-class defender.

After a recent row between manager Roberto Mancini and Kompany, there is a possibility of the 26-year-old Belgian leaving the club. Mancini had ordered Kompany to pull out of the international match against Macedonia, but the defender overlooked his manager’s words and played the FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Italian boss also stated that in order to compete with Manchester United, he has to spend at least £100 million on transfers. Mancini said: ‘We need to improve our team this way, and then maybe for the next three or four years we’ll only need to buy one player.

‘In the summer we need to buy important players who can improve our team.

‘We are working on our targets.’

Kompany’s departure can alter Mancini’s plans as the defender’s transfer will be a great loss for the club. Barcelona have been linked with the player in the past during Pep Guardiola’s time.
