Rumour: Benfica will hear offers from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic

Chelsea v SL Benfica - UEFA Europa League Final

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Benfica are ready to open negotiations for their star player Nemanja Matic and will hear offers from Manchester United and a few other clubs.

The paper claims that Benfica are already looking at life beyond Matic by looking for a replacement and are sending out a clear signal to clubs that the midfielder will be sold in the January window if the right offer is made.

Manchester United have scouted Benfica many times in the recent past and have been linked with Matic for quite some time now. While all of it has been mere speculation without any concrete progress, O Jogo claim they know Manchester United are one of a small handful of clubs seriously interested.

Benfica are interested in cashing in on their star man who moved to the Portuguese club from Chelsea in 2011. Matic is rumoured to have a buyout clause of €50 million and while it is unlikely that he will be be sold for that price, Benfica will be looking for a fee in and around the £3o million mark.

Matic has impressed many European clubs with Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and PSG all reportedly interested in signing him. The Serbian midfielder is cup-tied this season but that will not deter clubs from snapping him up in January should Benfica decide to sell.
