Euro 2012: Match Report - Greece vs Czech Republic

Greece 1-2 Czech Republic: (Gekas’53|||Jiracek 3′ Pilar 6′)

Line Ups

Champ of the Match: Tomas Rosicky

Brilliant throughout the first half. Injured for the second half, and him not being there led to Czech Republic becoming flat. Was part of Czech’s 10 minute dominance at the start of the game, assisted one of the goals. Looks deadly. Hopefully, the injury isn’t bad and that he will be back for the decider against Poland. Worthy ‘Champ of the Match’.Chump of the Match: Greece’s defence

Petr Cech avoided being chump by a whisper, dropping the ball and gifting a goal to Gekas, due to his team still winning the match. Greece’s back line was a shambles, conceding two goals in 6 minutes. Holebas was easily fooled, by being caught ball watching when he should of been watching goalscorer Jiracek. For the second goal, all the defence was at fault!

Quick play from the Czech’s saw them carved open, and scrambling around the 6 yard box, trying to force a clearance, Pilar turned it in. Embarrassing display from Greece, and they are likely to exit.Referee: Stephane Lannoy

Quiet game for the referee. Absolutely nothing to report.Tweets of the Match

@Robboandsports – Greece aren’t pressing Czech Republic and are letting too much space to be formed in little areas. Poor.

@jimmtregartha – Rosicky is a Kung Fu master as well as a footballer.

@CainTalksFooty (Me) – Shame Czech didn’t play like this against Russia. There could have been a flurry of goals.

@samuelj29060 – Greece making a habit of being awful in first period, then quite good in the second. Consistently inconsistent.What to expect next for Czech Republic and Greece

Czech Republic were fantastic today, like a totally different side that took to the field against Russia. Worked hard, and looked good going forward. Baros still looks poor, however, but I think they’ll progress from the tournament.

Greece were awful, defence was utterly embarrassing. Looked better second half, but very slim chances of progressing now.Written by Cain O’BennettFollow me on Twitter @CainTalksFootyCheck out his wonderful site, Euro 2012 BloggerPlease like O-Posts on FacebookFollow the site on Twitter
