FIFA suspends Brazil's senior press official, Rodrigo Paiva for punching Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla

Chile Striker Mauricio Pinilla was reportedly hit by Brazil's senior press official, Rodrigo Paiva

Brazil’s senior press official Rodrigo Paiva has been slapped a one-match ban after he punched Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla.

A fight had broken out during the first half between the two due to which Paiva was sent off by the referee.

"He has been suspended for one match," a FIFA spokeswoman said when inquired about Paiva.

The Brazilian can still get into further delay as FIFA may slap him with harsher punishment.

Paiva had defended himself as he said that he pushed Pinilla in self-defence.

The Chilean striker in return had tweeted and asked FIFA to sentence to Paiva to even harsher punishment.

"I demand that FIFA give Rodrigo Paiva an exemplary punishment just like the one imposed on my colleague (Uruguay striker) Suarez!!! This is even more serious.! There are images,"

Brazil had defeated Chile in their round of 16 face-off after the match went into penalties which the 5 times champions won 5-3.

The men in yellow will now face Colombia in the Quarter-Finals.
