Vertonghen: No rift between me and AVB

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has denied talk of manager Andre Villas-Boas not seeing eye to eye with his players following the embarrassing start to the season.

Andre Villas-Boas is under intense pressure after their latest 6-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad. Spurs have slipped down to 9th place in the league scoring just once in their last 3 games.

When asked about any rift, Vertonghen said, “If there’s a problem between the players and the manager? Absolutely not,” Vertonghen told reporters.

“There are also no troubles between [individual] players. This [defeat] was painful. Also the way we lost. I’ve the feeling I want to play this game again. We even could have conceded more goals.

The Spurs fans are yet to see a return on their 107m investment on 8 new recruits in the summer. It does not get any easier for the Londoners, with the red half of Manchester visiting the White Hart Lane, this week. Vertonghen and AVB will be hoping for a positive response.

“We will talk and bounce back on Sunday against Manchester United,” added the former Ajax Amsterdam man.

“It is a good thing we play Manchester United next. We play at home. I know we have the support of our crowd and we can win that game on Sunday.”
