Anthony Martial has admitted that he laughs when Louis Van Gaal yells at him because he thinks that the hard approach by his manager will help improve his game.

“He yells at me,” Martial told RTL. “It makes me laugh because I know it's for my own good.” Martial has been in good form for Manchester United this season having scored 12 goals, but his manager continues to demand more from the young French forward.

He also revealed that the his former coach, Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim was equally hard on him.

“He was very hard with me, that’s what I needed,” he said.

Martial made his senior France debut last September and the forward reveals that a warning from Didier Deschamps played a key role in his development.

“[He said] what are you waiting with the qualities you have? It would be a huge waste,” said the United striker.

“He came to see his friends. I was there, I said hello and that's what he told to me.

"When somebody says something like that, it makes you aware of certain things, and I continued to work, and it paid off."

Manchester United fans must be patient with Martial – Carrick

Manchester United fans must be patient with Anthony Martial as the 20-year-old cannot always be the 'shining light' in every match, according to midfielder Michael Carrick.

The French striker has scored nine goals in 30 appearances since his big-money transfer from French club Monaco last year, although he has suffered a dip in form recently having netted just once in his last seven games.

"We have to understand that sometimes he might not be that shining light and have days when it's not quite happening for him and that's understandable," Carrick told the club's website.

"But over time he'll improve and I've seen a big improvement already in this short time. Hopefully, that trend will continue and he'll get better and better."

Manchester United will be looking to push for a top 4 position when Premier League action resumes next weekend after the international break.
