Fans have still not forgiven Fellaini for his error against Everton

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has come out in defense of his Belgian international midfielder, Marouane Fellaini, after the club’s fans booed the 29-year-old during the game against Tottenham.

Fellaini was responsible for the 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park earlier this month, after giving away a needless penalty in the dying minutes of the game which eventually cost the Red Devils all three points.

As a result of that mistake, Fellaini was booed by a section of Manchester United fans while the Belgian was warming up during the second half of the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. But Jose Mourinho has accepted such a response from the fans since his side has not been getting positive results.

“I accept it because from the fans you have to accept everything and especially fans that are giving so much without getting so much," said Mourinho. “The only things they are getting are honesty, professionalism dedication but not the results they expect.”

The Portuguese manager also stated that he likes Fellaini and considers him important to the team and also insisted that the Belgian will always have his protection.

“They have in their mind the mistake that Marouane did at Everton and no more than that. He is a player and a person I like and the person is more important. He will always have my protection.”

Manchester United finally got their first win following three consecutive draws in the Premier League after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Sunday. Mourinho’s men were fluent in attack and looked dangerous for the majority of the game against Spurs and thanks to a neatly finished goal by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Red Devils are now just two points off the London club in the League table.

The rejuvenated Mkhitaryan became the first Armenian international to score a goal in the English Premier League in the game against Spurs at Old Trafford. But there is a bit of concern for United fans as the 27-year-old was taken off in the 81st minute of the game after a challenge by Spurs defender Danny Rose.

The Armenian international was carried off on a stretcher and was given a standing ovation by the Old Trafford faithful for his man of the match display. But Mourinho is quite confident about the 27-year old’s return to action before Christmas. Manchester United will next face Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Thursday.
