Portugal's Postiga wants better service against Danes

Lviv (Ukraine) - Portugal front man Helder Postiga wants better service from players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani for their vital Group B clash against surprise package Denmark, the Real Zaragoza forward said Tuesday.

Portugal lost 1-0 to Germany last week, and need a win against Netherlands-slayers Denmark to get their campaign back on track.

Asked to explain his failure to score – part of a dry run that stretches back to November – Postiga said: “If I receive more support from them, it will be a lot easier for me.”

“It depends on the system. We have three midfielders now, and we created a lot of chances toward the end against the Germans,” the 29-year-old said.

For the national team, Postiga has a better goals-per-game ratio than Ronaldo, and is his country’s second-top scorer in history with 19 goals in 50 games, but still faces criticism for his meagre strike rate.

“If we create opportunities, of course we will score sooner or later, I’m absolutely convinced about that,” he said.

“I do everything to prove the critics wrong, and I’ve done my best,” he added, going on to note their fickle nature.

“A single goal can change all these conditions.”

Postiga was replaced by Nelson Oliveira on 69 minutes by coach Paulo Bento, but should retain his starting place against Denmark.

Germany play the Netherlands in Wednesday’s other game.
