Rumour: Arsenal favourites to land superstar Karim Benzema

Reports suggest that English giants and League leaders Arsenal are favorites to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

The Gunners who previously only had 1 recognized first team striker and Niklas Bendtner in their set-up, are currently amidst a mid-season injury crisis with injuries to Olivier Giroud, Niklas Bendtner, Yaya Sanogo and recently Theo Walcott.

Theo Walcott has been ruled out for 6 months with an ACL injury while Bendtner is not expected to be available till another 6 weeks and while Olivier Giroud is expected to be back in 2 weeks time, he alone can’t help Arsenal in competing in the 3 fronts that they are currently challenging for.

Arsenal have conceded defeat in the pursuit of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez who is on Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s radar to lead his attack, and the Spanish outfit are certain to pip Arsenal to the capture of the Uruguayan.

Karim Benzema has long been on the radar of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, and the Gunners are plotting a £22 million bid to sign the Frenchman from the Spanish side. Although the deal for the 26-year hinges on the Luis Suarez’s decision to quit Anfield.

Benzema is the only likely option that the Gunners will be able to lure in January if Madrid land Suarez, with Madrid already possessing youngsters Jese Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata in their ranks; so they will let the 26 year old leave for around £22 million.

Benzema is not exactly a fan’s favorite at Real Madrid with at times being booed of the field by the fans. Though although he has managed 98 goals in 207 appearances for Madrid with 61 of them coming from the bench. Having successfully signed Mesut Ozil in the summer, Arsenal will fancy their chances to land the Frenchman.
