Germany midfielder and reported Chelsea target Sami Khedira has rejected a new contract offer from Real Madrid in a bid to force a move through to Arsenal this summer, according to the Metro.

Khedira, 27, has been strongly linked with Arsenal this summer after numerous reports over the past 12 months that Arsene Wenger is desperate to take the German to the Emirates Stadium.

According to reports, Khedira has rejected the opportunity to sign a new two-year contract with Madrid, and is pushing to join Arsenal.

The Frenchman is looking at spending big money this summer to improve his first-team squad and central midfield is one of the key positions he needs to improve if he wants to fully challenge for the Premier League title.

Some reports claimed that Arsenal had made a bid of around £24 million for Khedira, but Madrid, who won their tenth Champions League trophy last season, rejected the alleged bid.

Khedira is currently starring for his country in Brazil at the World Cup where he scored in the semi-final demolition of the hosts on Tuesday evening and will take part in the final against Argentina on Sunday after the south Americans beat the Netherlands on penalties last night.

The major sticking point in any deal to take Khedira to Arsenal would be his wages of around £150,000-a-week, but the Gunners may be willing to pay that.

Khedira has completed 85% of his passes at the World Cup.
