Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has dismissed speculations of him leaving Arsenal.
The Belgian was Arsene Wenger’s go-to man at the centre of defence at the start of the season, but he finished it warming up the benches.
Laurent Koscielny’s defensive pairing with Per Mertesacker has been fruitful for Arsenal.
The 27-year-old has constantly been linked with a move outside Arsenal. But he is determined to stay and earn his spot in the starting XI.
“I’m happy at Arsenal. I didn’t play much and that was frustrating, but things can turn around quickly,” Vermaelen told Ad.nl.
“I was on the bench, but I could just as quickly be playing again. I’m working hard to make that happen.
“These are things that happen in professional football. Arsenal are a great club where there is a lot of competition.”
