Transfer Scouting Report: Tottenham Hotspur offer lifeline to out-of-favour Manchester United star Javier Hernandez

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez could be on his way out of Old Trafford, if reports from the Independent are to be believed.

The Mexican striker has struggled for game time so far this term, and Tottenham manager, Andre Villas Boas, has highlighted the forward as a potential solution to the Spurs’ current goal scoring problems.

Hernandez has featured in three games this season but is yet to complete a full 90 minutes

Tottenham have bagged just six league goals in seven games this season, two of which were penalties. Furthermore, only once have Spurs scored more than one time in a league game, beating Norwich 2-0 in September.

Javier Hernandez has played in just three Premier League fixtures for the Red Devils this season, with two of these games coming as a substitute. Naturally he has grown frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities and he has already made a claim for more time on the pitch.

There can be no doubting his ability and it’s fair to say his talent is currently being wasted at Manchester United. The little Mexican has scored 94 goals for club and country over the past four years, with 20 of these coming in his debut season in England. Although he has failed to score so far this year, he has found the target from all of his attempts.

The question for Villas-Boas is whether Hernandez will fit the current Spurs set-up. The Portuguese boss usually opts for a lone striker, but the Mexican is very much a poacher who relies on another forward for support. Last season all ten of his goals came from within the penalty area, he is not the kind of player who will hold up play, win flick-ons or score screamers from outside the box.

As a strike partner in a 4-4-2 formation, he would add genuine quality to the Spurs attack. Having registered a passing accuracy of 82% last season, Hernandez created 14 chances for his Manchester United team-mates. With these credentials in mind, he could be the perfect signing if played alongside Roberto Soldado.

For the both Tottenham and Javier Hernandez a move could prove to be an ideal solution, and if Villas-Boas is successful in his pursuit for the striker, Spurs would have an even greater chance of qualifying for the Champions League and perhaps challenging for the Premier League title.

Manchester United will be reluctant to see Chicharito depart, however, if a big enough offer is received, a sale could be on the cards.
