The recent earthquake in Nepal captured the lives of several mountaineers who were attempting to climb Mount Everest. And now, news has just come in that Australia-based Indian climber Rene Fotedar has passed away during her maiden attempt to climb the world’s tallest mountain.

The 49-year-old was among several mountaineers who fell prey to the killer avalanche. A Kashmiri Pandit from Srinagar, Fotedar had first migrated to Delhi before moving to Australia, immediately after her marriage.

In 2014, Rene climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, before deciding to climb Mt. Everest. Known for her ever-green personality, she last posted an image of herself on social networking website Facebook as she set out to conquer Everest.

Helicopters have been deployed to rescue the mountaineers who are trapped on Mount Everest. It is being reported that around 150 climbers are still trapped from Camps one and two.
