Siblings from India and Pakistan hoist flags on Everest

A few days before the 60th anniversary of the day on which Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay conquered Everest, the world’s highest peak witnessed another historic occasion take place at its apex.

A set of twins from India – Tashi and Nugsi – along with a brother-sister duo from Pakistan – Mirza Ali and Samina Baig – together conquered the world’s tallest peak at 7:30 am local time today. Then, they together planted the flags of the two nations on the snowcapped top of the mountain.

The moment was a highly symbolic one as well. The youngsters hope that their actions on top of the world will bring about a change in the relationship between their two nations. The foursome hope that their efforts will help thaw the frosty interactions between the arch-rivals.
