Darren Waller, a tight end for the New York Giants, was acquired this offseason after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Like any trade from one city to another, it comes with a lot of change and adjusting, but for Waller, it was more painful to leave the city of Las Vegas because of his wife Kelsey Plum.

Plum has been a member of the Las Vegas Aces since 2018 and has become a two-time WNBA champion, including the latest WNBA Championship. The couple got married on March 4, 2023.

Josh McDaniels dealt Waller to the New York Giants the day after he and Plum returned from their honeymoon. Plum appeared on the Pat McAfee Show yesterday and claimed that Waller's trade to New York was brutal and felt like her heart had been ripped out.

“It is wild, it’s brutal," Plum said. "It’s like ripping your heart out … God really just … It’s the only way we got through it, with our faith. Darren’s a soldier. I’m grateful to be able to go out there and spend some time with him because we really haven’t had much time together. But that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Sports is a business at the end of the day. It’s a Cadillac problem.”

Following being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Giants, Darren Waller said he was shocked and blind-sided by the trade.

Via people.com, he said:

"I did not see this coming. I was getting ready to just do everything I could to make myself available for the Raiders and get ready for everything that was going to start in mid-April."

The trade happened shortly after the two got married, and now, instead of living together in Vegas, the two are committed to a long-distance relationship due to their professional commitments.

In Waller's first season with the New York Giants, he's recorded 35 catches for 380 yards and has scored one touchdown in seven games played. The Giants are 2-5, but picked up their second victory of the season this last Sunday, with Waller scoring a touchdown.
