Andy Murray pulls out of ATP World Tour Finals

Andy Murray has not yet completely recovered from the back surgery he had undergone in September

Britain’s Andy Murray has withdrawn from the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London citing an ongoing recovery process as a result of the back surgery he underwent in September.

The current World number three had a minor operation to overcome a disc problem in his lower back.

Murray said: “I’m really disappointed not to be playing this year, I love playing in front of my home crowd, it’s a great atmosphere. All the players look forward to competing in London and I’ll be doing my best to qualify again for the tournament next year.”

Meanwhile Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer have all qualified for the event which is set to take place between November 5 and November 12 at London’s O2 Arena.

Tournament director Andre Silva said: “It’s unfortunate that Andy will be unable to play in this year’s tournament. He’s had a historic year on the Tour and of course he’ll be missed. We wish him all the best as he continues his recovery from surgery, and we hope to see him back stronger than ever for the 2014 season.”

The Wimbledon champion had pulled of French Open earlier this year because of the same injury.
