Andy Murray insists he is ready to defend his US Open title when the final Grand Slam of the season gets underway on Monday.
Murray said : “Physically I have felt better every week, I mean going from the grass to hard court is challenging on the body it hurts the first week or two weeks hurts of the hard court because it is a fairly harsh surface. It is tough and each day my body has got more and more use to it and by the time the tournament comes around I will be ready.”
“I took quite a big break after Wimbledon which I don’t normally do but I needed to take a little bit of time away from the court. I did not play so well in Montreal, but I played better in Cincinnati and I started practising here again yesterday and each day I am feeling better on the court so hopefully by the time the tournament comes around I will be feeling good.”
“Coming here last year I did not know if I could win a Grand Slam or if it was going to happen. I had lost in the final quite a few times and was doubting myself quite a lot so to finally get over that hurdle it obviously helps going into slams and obviously feel more comfortable going into later stages of a tournament.”“I don’t think there is a favourite. I don’t really buy into favourites that much because in a sport like tennis because of the skill that is involved from one day to the next, you can play great tennis one day and then wake up a couple of days later and feel horrible so i don’t think there is a clear favourite – Novak has played great tennis on the hard court and obviously Rafa would be the form player just now how well he has been playing.”
