NBA insider speculates LeBron James not ditching Lakers to link up with Bronny James on different squad

Bronny James has once again become a hot topic in the NBA world, as the young guard declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, where his next team remains a mystery. LeBron James' eldest son showed promise in high school. Although his performance at USC wasn't the best, he turned heads during the Combine.

NBA insider Shams Charania shared an update on Bronny's potential future, explaining what LeBron James could do if a different team, not named the Lakers, drafted his son.

"It would not surprise me in the coming weeks, if a team does reach out to Rich Paul or anyone who's around Bronny James, or anyone who has any idea, or LeBron James himself and says, 'Hey, if we draft Bronny James, would you come as well?' And the answer to that is no, as of right now," Charania told Kay Adams.

Charania added that the Lakers want to draft Bronny as well, and they feel there's a good fit with the 19-year-old guard. This is a key situation for the player and the team's future, considering they're looking for a new head coach.

After parting ways with Darvin Ham at the end of the season, the Lakers have been linked with JJ Redick, James Borrego and Sam Cassell, among others.

After three years without winning a championship, the Purple and Gold are keen to return to the top of the NBA, and hiring the right man for the job will be their priority.

Lakers interviewed Bronny James during NBA Combine

The Lakers' interest in Bronny James is real, as they interviewed the prospect during the NBA Combine in Chicago. James performed well in front of scouts and executives, going from four to 13 points in two scrimmage games.

Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reveals the Lakers are interested in bringing in Bronny with the No. 55 overall pick in the draft.

“In terms of the draft, the Lakers seem like they’ll be the draft floor for Bronny James at pick 55, a player the team conducted an interview with in Chicago, according to sources not authorized to publicly discuss draft strategy," he wrote.

The Utah Jazz are reportedly interested in the USC product too, so the Lakers will have to wait and see if they're able to get their hands on Bronny.
