Mohamed Elneny is set to leave Arsenal at the end of the season

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has announced that he will leave the Premier League side at the end of the season. The Egyptian midfielder is currently the longest-serving player of the club. He will end his time at the Emirates once his contract expires, as he hasn't been offered a new deal.

Elneny joined Arsenal from FC Basel in January 2016. He has been a source of positivity in his time at the club, proving to be a good influence in the dressing room. He suffered a serious knee injury last season but was kept for one more year by the club, and is now set to depart.

This season, Mohamed Elneny has struggled for game time, featuring for a grand total of 95 minutes across six appearances in the entire campaign. To announce his departure from the club, he posted a farewell video on X to inform the fans of his decision.

He said:

“Gooners, I’m here today to send you a message. To say goodbye, and thank you for everything you’ve done for me. The love, the support, and the kindness.
“I’m really going to miss you so much, and you will be in my heart forever, and I wanted to say how much I love you, and how much you mean to me. I will never forget the way you support me.
“I’m going to see you on Sunday, at the Emirates Stadium, to say goodbye face-to-face.”

Elneny has made 161 appearances in an Arsenal shirt, winning the FA Cup once and the Community Shield twice. The 31-year-old hasn't featured prominently in Mikel Arteta's plans this season and is set to continue his career elsewhere.

Arsenal goalkeeper set to leave club for free

Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. The 22-year-old spent the 2023-24 season with Wrexham, whom he helped to secure promotion to League One.

A boyhood Arsenal fan, Okonkwo joined the club at the age of just eight years old and has remained there ever since. He didn't factor in Arteta's plans, especially with Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya at the club, and went to Wrexham on loan. Okonkwo was named as the League Two Goalkeeper of the Year after impressing for the Dragons.

Okonkwo joins Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares as the players to be released by the Gunners once the season ends. The youngster will have numerous suitors, particularly after such an impressive season with Wrexham.
