The arrest of Scottie Scheffler this Friday morning, May 17, has not gone unnoticed by anyone in the golf world. Several personalities from the world of golf made their voices heard to show their solidarity with Scheffler in this situation.

One of them was Korean golfer Byeong Hun An, who joined the hashtag #FreeScottie that has been positioned on X (formerly Twitter). An reacted by posting the following text:

"Scottie’s mugshot is probably the last thing I would have expected to see #freescottie"

Australian Min Woo Lee joined the same trend by posting on X the hashtag #FreeScottie with no other text. So did journalist Frankie Borrelli of Barstool Sports.

Other players and journalists used X to stand in solidarity with Scottie Scheffler. They expressed their assurance that the matter was a misunderstanding and assured that Scheffler is an excellent person.

Among the latter were players Michael Kim, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Anthony Kim. The golf media gave extensive coverage to the affair.

Scottie Scheffler was stopped on his way to the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship. Police had stopped traffic due to a car accident that claimed the life of one person.

Scheffler had nothing to do with this event, but tried to overtake the police stop and was detained for it. Later, the world number one declared that he did not understand at the time the indications he was being given, but that he never intended to disregard the police order.

Did Scottie Scheffler miss his tee time for the 2nd round of the 2024 PGA Championship?

Since news of Scottie Scheffler's arrest broke, one of the concerns of fans and event officials was that the world number one might lose his tee time.

Scheffler had an early start time in the morning of the second round. That was the reason he was driving to Valhalla Golf Club at approximately 5:00 am (Eastern Time).

Fortunately, one of the co-owners of Valhalla Golf Club, Jimmy Kirchdorfer, went to the police station and got Scheffler to leave. It is unclear at this time if the charges against him hold up, but he was able to arrive in time to play his round.

The second day of the 2024 PGA Championship had been temporarily suspended due to the car accident near the venue. Scheffler's new tee time was 10:18 a.m., so he was able to make it.

Scheffler has played his second round at his usual level of golf. By the 13th hole he had five birdies and one bogey. His tournament score is 8 under and he is in fourth place, with the round still to finish.

Scheffler finished the first round in T12, with a score of 4 under, thanks to an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys.
