Jannik Sinner's coach Darren Cahill has teased a comeback for the Italian at the French Open after an injury layoff. The World No. 2 was last seen in action at the Madrid Open, where he gave a walkover in his quarter-final match against Felix Auger-Aliassame.

2024 has been a breakthrough season for Sinner. This has been the year when the Italian has realized his full potential on the court. The highlight of the season has been the come-from-behind victory at the Australian Open final against Daniil Medvedev. Sinner was down two sets in his maiden Major final but was able to recover to win the match, highlighting the improvement on the mental side of things for the Italian.

However, a hip injury hampered the season's progress for the 22-year-old. The subsequent medical reports not only prompted the Italian to forfeit his quarter-final in Madrid, but withdraw from the Italian Open as well.

Darren Cahill joined Sinner's coaching entourage in the middle of the 2022 season. Since then, the partnership has flourished on the court and has resulted in eight titles, including a Grand Slam, two Masters 1000 titles, and a run to the final of the ATP Finals last year.

Cahill went on to subtly hint at Sinner's return at the French Open. The Australian just posted a picture on social media that had a tennis racquet with three balls and 'Roland Garros 2024' embossed on the latter.

Jannik Sinner had to withdraw from his home tournament at the Italian Open owing to the injury sustained while playing in Madrid. Sinner confessed that withdrawing from the Rome event was an emotionally tough decision for him. In an attempt to keep his body injury-free, this step was necessary.

“I have to accept it even if it hurts me and many fans. We realised something is not totally good. If it is not 100 per cent healed, I'll stay out a little longer. Caring for the body is much more important than everything else,” said Sinner at a press conference (via atptour.com)

Sinner emphasized that he would not be rushing his recovery as other important events such as the French Open and Wimbledon are up on the tennis calendar in the subsequent months.

“I’ll just try to get back to 100 per cent as soon as possible, hopefully trying to play in Paris and then Wimbledon and all the rest.... We'll take our time, there's no rush and hopefully I can get back very, very soon,” added Sinner.

Sinner's best result at Roland Garros has been a run to the quarter-finals in 2020 where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.
