But he will be now playing in the FIBA World Cup, representing his home country for the very first time. We will go through his basketball career so far to analyse his chances of representing the national team and winning the World Cup in 2023.

Brandon Ingram’s country and early basketball years

The New Carolina-born star has US citizenship and spent his entire career in the States. He will be representing the US National team in the upcoming FIBA World Cup. Brandon Ingram's basketball journey began in the heart of American basketball culture. With his father playing college-level basketball, Brandon Ingram grew up in a basketball background.

Playing for the Kingston Vikings, Brandon Ingram rose to stardom from a very early age. His offensive prowess was the main reason for the Vikings’ success as they went on to win four consecutive state championships in as many years. They set the record for the most consecutive state title wins, with Ingram laying a vital role and winning 2 MVP trophies during that period.

As he progressed through the ranks of youth basketball, his talent and potential became increasingly evident. Playing for Duke University, Brandon Ingram’s game reached a new level. Efficient from the field (40% FG) Ingram averaged 17.3 points along with 6.8 rebounds and 2 assists in 36 games for the Dukes. His effective and productive sole season ranked him in the top 3 among the school's all-time freshman leaders. He was all-time third in scoring, second in three-pointers made and 20-point games.

Illustrious NBA Career

His single season with the Duke Blue Devils showcased his scoring prowess, versatility, and basketball IQ, solidifying his status as one of the top prospects in the nation. In the 2016 NBA Draft, Ingram's journey took a significant leap forward as he was selected as the 2nd overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Living up to the expectations, Ingram had a respectable Rookie season with the Lakers. He played in 79 games for the team and even earned a starting role in half of those games with his unique playing style and ability to impact both ends of the court.

As Ingram’s second season saw a huge jump in production with increased game time and a refined skill set. He averaged 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the Lakers which provided them some positives in a rather struggling season.

After successful three seasons with the Lakers, Brandon Ingram was moved to New Orleans Pelicans in a multiplayer deal that brought Anthony Davis to the Lakers. Moving to the Pelicans benefitted Ingram’s growth as he got more court time and performed exceptionally well in that period. He earned his first All-star selection and was also rewarded with the Most Improved Player of the Year award.

Playing alongside experienced CJ McCollum and explosive Zion Williamson, Ingram formed a big three in the New Orleans team and carried the team to consecutive Playoff appearances. Sadly, he could only play in the three games in two postseason series due to injuries, but his regular season performances did prove his dedication toward the team’s success.

Very recently Ingram recorded his career-best 24.7 points and 5.8 rebounds average playing in 45 games for the Pelicans. Brandon Ingram's basketball journey has been incredible and inspiring for the young stars. While Ingram may be representing the US national team for the first time in his career, his skillsets, competitive nature, and offensive gameplay make him an important piece in the team’s quest for the title.
