Coming from a well-doing faithful family in Saginaw, Michigan, Darvin Ham faced challenges along the way to playing in the world’s best basketball league but stuck to his determination that guided him to his goal. After graduating from Saginaw High School, Darvin Ham was recruited by Texas Tech University. Ham represented the Red Raiders from 1993 to 1996 under head coach James Dickey's guidance and proved his worth as an attacking scorer and defender.

Having showcased his abilities on the court as a dominant, impressive small forward, Ham was named to the Southwest Conference Defensive team, and the All-SWC second team, and became the first-ever Texas Tech player to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Furthermore, his role was crucial in helping Texas Tech to its first-ever sweet sixteen qualifications in twenty years.

After his twelve-year journey as an active player, Ham debuted as an assistant coach in the NBA G League in 2008 and continued to climb the ladder before joining the coaching staff of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011. Following his four-year stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, Darvin Ham was hired as the head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022.
