Dru Smith is a professional basketball player who plays as a guard for the NBA franchise the Miami Heat. Smith is on a two-way contract with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, a team associated with the Miami Heat in the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Evansville Purple Aces and the Missouri Tigers. Born on Dec. 30, 1997, in Evansville, Indiana Dru Smith went undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft and then joined Miami Heat for the 2021 Summer League. He was waived by the Miami Heat before the start of 2021 but he joined Sioux Falls as an affiliate player. In February 2022, Smith was waived as he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

In October 2022, Smith was re-signed by the Miami Heat to a two-way contract. After being waived by the Miami Heat again, in January 2023 Smith signed a two-way contract with the NBA franchise the Brooklyn Nets. Then in July 2023, Dru started his second stint with the Heat but suffered a season-ending ACL injury against the Cavaliers on November 22. Dru Smith began his college basketball career on the Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball team at the University of Evansville, Indiana. Owing to his performances Smith earned a spot on the MVC Most Improved Team of the Year for the 2017-18 season. After spending two years at Evansville, Smith transferred to the Missouri Tigers men's basketball team at the University of Missouri. As a redshirt junior in the 2019-20 season, Smith averaged a team-high 12.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals in 31 games.
