Jimmy Butler III, a basketball forward for the Miami Heat, has been playing with the team since July 2019 through a sign-and-trade. He was originally drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2011 as the overall 30th pick. He received the 2015 NBA Most Improved Player award. However, two seasons later, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2017 and then to the Philadelphia 49ers in 2018. He has been named to the All-NBA Team five times, the NBA All-Defensive Team five times, and the NBA All-Star Team six times. He also competed for the United States in the 2016 Olympics and won a gold medal. He topped the league in steals in 2021 and reached the NBA Finals in 2023.

Butler went to Tomball High School and upon graduating, he wasn't recruited, opting to attend Tyler Junior College in 2007. He played one year of college basketball for Tyler Junior College before transferring to Marquette University. He had 76.8% free-throw shooting in the 2008–09 season as a sophomore, averaging 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He earned All-Big East Honorable Mention honors after he entered the starting lineup as a junior, averaging 14.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Butler helped Marquette finish 11-7 in the Big East and qualify for the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in a row. He averaged 15.7 points per game as a senior, earning him an All-Big East honorable mention for the second consecutive year.
