The stature of LeBron James is so enormous that individuals outside of the game of basketball are also aware of who he is. LeBron James has won a total of three medals at the Olympics for the United States men’s national basketball team. Out of the three medals he has brought home, two of them are gold while the third one is bronze.


Basketball is one sport at the Olympics where the United States has been the most dominant team in the history of the games. They have a record 19 appearances at the games and have won a total of 16 gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. Therefore, with such a dominant record, the 2004 bronze medal came as a shock throughout the country.

In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, LeBron James averaged around 11.5 minutes per game coming off the bench. He had only been playing in the NBA since 2003, but he already made the national team, thanks to his 2004 NBA Rookie of the Year award.


With the very limited game time, the current Lakers forward averaged only 5.4 points, 1.6 assists and 1.0 rebounds per game. LeBron James played alongside several NBA stars such as Allen Iverson, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Tim Duncan, Amar'e Stoudemire and more.

The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was revenge time for the normally dominant United States basketball team. This time the team was assembled with a plethora of stars with no compromises as the United States looked to bring back the gold medal.


Called the Redeem Team, this team was composed of superstars such as LeBron James himself, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd, Chris Bosh, and more.


By 2008, LeBron was a huge star in the NBA having led the Cavaliers all the way to the NBA Finals in 2006-07. Starting in the Olympics, this time around, LeBron averaged 24.8 minutes per game, averaging 15.5 points, dishing out 3.8 assists, and collecting 5.3 rebounds to go along with his 2.4 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.


The Redeem team was successful in bringing the gold medal back to the United States once again to continue their dominance of the tournament.


LeBron James at the 2012 Summer Olympics

By the time the 2012 Summer Olympics started in London, James was just coming off his first ever NBA Championship with the Miami Heat and was in the form of his life having won the Finals MVP as well.


In this edition of the Summer Olympics, the former Cavaliers’ guard was one of the members of another star-studded United States men’s national basketball team alongside superstar players such as Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, Carmelo Anthony, and more.


Once again being in top form and as the reigning NBA Champion, LeBron James was a starting member of the team. In 24.9 minutes per game on the floor, he averaged 13.3 points, 5.6 assists and 5.6 rebounds as well as 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks.


The team was successful in defending their Gold medal which they had won from the previous edition in 2008. Thus, the 2012 Olympics victory gave LeBron James his third medal overall at the Summer Olympics.
