After the 2022-23 off-season, all the players are now ready to play in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The tournament occurs once in four years and will be played from 25 August to 10 September. This is the second time that 32 teams from all around the globe are participating including the teams from Africa, Asia, America, Europe, and Oceania. The tournament will act as a qualification round for the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.

Conversing about the host nations, this is the first time that multiple nations are hosting the prestigious tournament together - the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. This is the second straight year when the World Cup is taking place in Asia, the first being in China in 2019.

This year, Indonesia will play its first World Cup tournament as a host while Japan and the Philippines have hosted once in 2006 and 1978.

Countries Having the Most Number of Championships?

The upcoming FIBA championship will be the 19th flagship event, starting since the 1950 edition and the last being the 2019. With the 10 teams battling, the first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup took place in 1950 in Argentina. The host became the champion that year after defeating Team USA in the finals. Since then the tournament had gained immense popularity and craze thus, expanded to a large number of places. Now, a total of 32 teams are participating in the competition.

Talking about the past winners, USA and Yugoslavia hold the five-five championships title, the Soviet Union has three titles in its bucket and lastly Spain and Brazil lift the trophy twice.
