PJ Tucker

PJ Tucker is an American basketball player who plays as the power forward for the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. Born on May 5, 1985, Tucker was brought up in Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S., and attended William G. Enloe High School, where his jersey number has been retired.

In the NBA, Tucker is known as the quintessential 3-and-D player who serves as an ideal model of excellence within his role. He demonstrates that being elite in a specialized defensive role is equally vital for a championship team. His role as a defensive leader was the backbone of the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks championship team. As an offensive player, PJ is one of the best corner 3 players in the league.

Although Tucker's contributions are extremely important, he never really fills up the traditional box score, with many calling him a "no-stats All-Star." His impact goes far beyond the numbers, emphasizing the intangible qualities that make him a valuable asset to his team.

In the 2023 playoffs, PJ Tucker spent 37 minutes on the court without attempting a single field goal or free throw. That is the most minutes played without a FGA or FTA in a playoff game in the shot-clock era (since 1954-55 season).

Off-the-court, P.J. Tucker is a pop culture icon in the basketball community due to his eclectic and stylish sneaker collection, earning him the moniker "Sneaker King." His passion for fashion and sneakers has not only made him a trendsetter in the basketball world but also a respected figure in the sneaker culture community. In 2023, Tucker takes his on and off-court attributes to Los Angeles as he pursues his second championship ring.

PJ Tucker Real Name

P.J. Tucker’s real name is Anthony Leon Tucker Jr. When Tucker was a kid, his father started calling him "Pops Junior." This gave birth to his nickname “P.J.”

When did PJ Tucker go to Texas?

PJ Tucker attended University of Texas, Austin from 2003 to 2006. In his three-year career with the Longhorns, Tucker scored 1,169 points, grabbed 714 rebounds, and dished out 170 assists. However, due to issues with academics, he only played 17 games in his second season.

Tucker played alongside future NBA All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, and both of them caught NBA scouts’ eyes. In his junior season, Tucker was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and a second-team All-American, averaging 16.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

After his junior season, Tucker declared for the NBA draft. If he stayed one more season, he would've played with Kevin Durant in 2006-07.
