Hailing from Waukee, Iowa, Payton Sandfort is an American college basketball player who is an NBA prospect for the 2024 NBA draft. He presently plays for the University of Iowa in the Big 10 Conference. Named the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association 4A Player of the Year, Sandfort averaged over 16 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a senior at Waukee High School.

As a three-star recruit, Sandfort received offers from multiple colleges including Stanford and Utah. Sandfort ultimately committed to play for Iowa. Making an immediate impact on his team, Sandfort played 34 games in his freshman season averaging over 5 points per game. In his sophomore season, Sandfort was briefly given the starting role of shooting guard before being moved to the position of sixth man. His performance off the bench led him to be named as the Big Ten Conference Sixth Man of the Year. In his junior year, Sandfort started in all games in the season and emerged as a leader for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Aside from basketball, Sandfort also used to play golf during high school. Furthermore, he was known to perform very well academically, having received multiple academic awards such as the CSC Second-Team Academic All-American.
