Hailing from Toyama Prefecture in Japan, Rui Hachimura plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. Hachimura was the first Japanese player ever to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft when he was selected with the 9th overall pick in 2019. Hachimura is a solid starter for the Lakers who impacts the game with his slashing and shooting abilities. Prior to the NBA, Rui Hachimura played two collegiate seasons at Gonzaga University. One of his standout moments for the Zags was winning MVP at the Maui Invitational Tournament. In the 2018/19 NCAA Div-I season, Hachimura won the 2019 WCC Player of the Year title as he led the Zags in scoring with 19.7 points per game and averaged 6.5 rebounds per game. In the 2023 off-season, the Los Angeles Lakers recognized his potential and signed Hachimura to a three-year $51 million contract.

Rui Hachimura's younger brother, Allen (who also goes by Aren), shares Rui’s basketball passion and talent. Allen Hachimura attended Meisei High School in Japan, the same school Rui attended, and achieved success by helping the team win national championships. Allen continued his basketball career at Tokai University and as of October 2024, plays as a forward for the Gunma Crane Thunders in Japan’s B.League.
