The San Antonio Spurs' point guard, Stephon Castle, was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. During his junior year at Newton High School, he made up his mind to join the UConn Huskies, over offers from Ohio State, Arkansas, and Auburn, among others. He was selected for the 2023 McDonald's All-American Boys Game in his senior year. The five-star recruit enrolled at the University of Connecticut, as decided.

At UConn, Castle averaged 11.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 27.0 minutes, earning him the title of Big East Freshman of the Year in 34 games. In the final two games of the tournament, Castle finished with a total of 36 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals to help the Huskies win the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

In July 2024, the San Antonio Spurs reported that rookie Stephon Castle had sprained his right wrist and would miss the rest of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. After taking a hard fall on the court during a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on July 15, he suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter.

Giving a thumbs up to the team bench, Castle was able to stand up on his own and continue playing. Being cautious, the team decides to sit him out the remaining games. However, the injury isn't thought to be significant. He should be ready for the start of training camp in the autumn, as per USA Today.

Castle finished his successful summer with the Spurs with 22 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal in the game. In 29 minutes of play, he shot 8 of 21 from the field, including 2 of 6 from 3-point range. In his two previous California Classic appearances with the Spurs, the fourth pick averaged 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and 1.5 steals. In all three of the games between Sacramento and Las Vegas, he finished with a double-digit score
