Taylor Jenkins is an American professional basketball coach, currently coaching the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA. Jenkins was born on September 12, 1984, and spent most of his childhood in Dallas where he attended his high school. Jenkins attended St. Marks School of Texas in Dallas where he played for their high school team. He was a two-time captain of their basketball team and played as an undersized (standing at 6’3) forward.

After his high school days, Jenkins moved to the East Coast where he studied at the University of Pennsylvania, doing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics focusing mainly on Management while doing a minor in Psychology. Jenkins did not play any college basketball during his tenure as a college student.

What teams has Taylor Jenkins coached?

Taylor Jenkins began his NBA coaching career by interning with the San Antonio Spurs operations department during the 2007-08 season. In 2008, he was hired as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs D-league affiliate team where he held that position for 5 years till 2013. He was pretty successful in his tenure there, leading the team to multiple playoff appearances and even leading them to a playoff round win in 2011.

In 2013, Jenkins got his first taste of NBA coaching when he was hired by the Atlanta Hawks as an assistant coach under Mike Budenholzer. In his tenure there, the Hawks had four consecutive playoff appearances and even made the conference finals in 2015. Mainly in charge of player development, Jenkins was majorly responsible for developing 4 of the Hawks’s starting five into all-stars. In 2018, Jenkins followed Budenholzer and joined the Bucks as an assistant coach. Mostly known as a players coach, Jenkins has a great repo with all his players and given his age, considers himself to be one among them.

In 2019, Jenkins finally got his big break, a head coaching opportunity. He was hired by the Memphis Grizzlies as their head coach and he made an immediate impact. With a new franchise player in Ja Morant, Jenkins mainly focused on the development of the players around Morant and made sure that their skill sets complemented that of Morant’s. In 2021, the Grizzlies earned the nickname ‘Grit and Grind 2.0’ and quickly became a fan favorite. It was amazing to see the rise of Jenkins to be one of the best coaches in the league and it coincided with the Grizzlies becoming one of the top teams in the NBA. In 2022, Jenkins was nominated for the NBA’s Coach of the Year award but did not win it. The Grizzlies won their first playoff series in 2022 since 2015 but however, lost to the Warriors in the conference semi-finals. Jenkins still remains as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies and expects to take the team to new heights.
