Born in Lisieux, Batum is a french player who showed his abilities on the court from an early age. His father was also a professional player who passed away during a game. Nicholas when he was just 2 years old along with his mother were present when the incident took place. He is a versatile player who can play as a forward and at the guard position.

He managed to get success at a very young age, Batum won the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship playing for the French junior team. He didn't just win the gold medal for his country but also managed to earn the title of MVP during the tournament. Batum was selected by the Houston Rockets in the 2008 draft but got sent to the Portland Trail Blazers. There was a brief moment when the NBA lockout took place in 2011. For that year he signed a contract with SLUC Nancy back in France before making a return to the Blazers the year after. He made career high plays and improved his game further before leaving the team in 2015 and moving to the Charlotte Hornets.

In Charlotte, Batum was one of the more experienced guys in the team. He was an integral part of their offence and had become a very familiar name in the league.
