Out of the three encounters so far between CSK and LSG in the IPL, they both have equally dominated each other with a single victory each. One match between them has yielded no result.

With five titles under their belt, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is arguably the most successful team in the IPL. CSK has won the now defunct Champions League T20 twice. Due to the owners' involvement in the 2013 IPL betting controversy, the franchise was suspended from the IPL for two years effective from July 2015. Even so, in its 2018 comeback season, CSK won the league title.

The Chennai Super Kings have now matched the Mumbai Indians for the most title victories, solidifying their status as the IPL's most successful team. Chennai Super Kings won the latest IPL (2023) to secure their fifth title.

Lucknow Super Giants and Gujrat Titans were the newly introduced teams in the 2022 IPL season. LSG signed their initial set of players at the mega auction in February 2022. Marcus Stoinis, Mark Wood, Quinton de Kock, and KL Rahul were among the prominent players who were signed by LSG.

The team qualified for the playoffs in 2022 by finishing third in the group stage. They were eliminated in the Eliminator match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team finished third in the 2022 season and also in the 2023 season, where they lost to MI in the eliminator of the play-offs. In the two seasons of their IPL career, they have made it to the play-offs both times and also ended up in the third place consecutively.
