West Brom's top 4 transfer targets this summer

Darren Moore Press Conference at West Bromwich Albion

It's no secret that the Baggies are in dire need of players in order to add some depth to their depleted squad following relegation from the Premier League. About a dozen of the club's key players have been linked with moves away from the Hawthorns - with most being tempted by the prospect of Premier League football.

The EFL Championship is regarded by many players as unattractive and interminable: the eight extra games in a season can be a big strain on an individual unaccustomed to the league. This makes an offer from a Premier League side all the more enticing.

Albion boss Darren Moore knows that he needs to prioritise bringing in a new centre-back or two after the exit of Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans. Since then, Craig Dawson (who is primarily a right-back, but can also step in as a centre-back) has handed in a transfer request, and Ahmed Hegazi's relegation release clause of £10 million is bound to be activated by the handful of teams interested in the Egyptian.

Here are West Brom's top four targets for this summer's transfer window.

#1 Kyle Bartley

Liverpool v Leeds United - EFL Cup Quarter-Final

According to The Mirror's live transfer blog (July 5, 18:27pm), West Brom are set to compete with Birmingham and Leeds for Swansea City centre-back Kyle Bartley, who is valued at about £4 million.

The 27-year-old has hardly played for the Swans in recent years, but proved what he was capable of with a successful loan spell at Leeds during their 2016/17 Championship campaign, where he played 46 matches, scoring 6 goals and earning 5 assists.

Swansea were also relegated to the Championship last season with West Brom, but it's Bartley's lack of game time that makes a transfer away from the Swans a real possibility.

#2 Rolando Aarons

Bristol City v Newcastle United: Sky Bet Championship

After West Brom's hopes of signing Bristol City forward Bobby Reid were dashed following his £10 million transfer to Cardiff, Darren Moore was quick to turn his attention to Newcastle's tricky left-winger Rolando Aarons.

With James McClean on the verge of joining Stoke, Rolando Aarons, an under-20 England international, could be a quality replacement ahead of the Baggies' push for automatic promotion from the Championship next season.

However, the 22-year-old's progress has been stunted in recent years by injury, and he spent last season on loan at Hellas Verona in Italy in an attempt to get some minutes under his belt.

Moore knows that Aarons has the ability to break into the starting eleven, but will need proof that his fitness levels are up to par before a bid is likely to materialise.

#3 Danny Batth

Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Sky Bet Championship

The Mirror recently reported in their live transfer blog (July 2, 13:31pm) that West Brom are interested in signing Danny Batth from Wolves.

The centre-back won automatic promotion from the Championship with Wolves last season and knows the league well.

Batth could be available for £4 million, but it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old would be willing to move to the Baggies, given that he could play Premier League football next season with Wolves instead.

#4 Romaine Sawyers

Brentford v Cardiff City - Sky Bet Championship

Romaine Sawyers, a former product of Albion's youth academy, has been linked with a return after impressing at Brentford.

Darren Moore and first-team coach James Shan had both worked with Sawyers in the youth academy, which could be pivotal in enticing the 26-year-old back to the Baggies.

It is believed that Moore only plans to bid for the player if Nacer Chadli departs. Chadli, who has impressed for Belgium at the World Cup, has a £17 million relegation release clause in his contract, which might very well be activated given his quality performances on the world stage as of late.

Sawyers scored four goals and assisted five for Brentford in the Championship last season.

He joined the Bees from Walsall on a free transfer in 2016, so any amount they receive would be a profit.
