New England Patriots are confident that tight end Rob Gronkowski will get the all clear to play Super Bowl LII against the Philadelphia Eagles after stepping up his participation in practice.

Gronkowski remains in the NFL's concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in the AFC Championship victory over Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaking at event on Tuesday, Gronkowski said he was "feeling good" and hoped to receive the green light on Wednesday, although that was not the case.

However, Gronkowski was in pads during practice and coach Bill Belichick remains hopeful.

"We red-jerseyed him today, so he's working his way back," he said.

Wednesday's pool report from the Pats' two-hour practice also stated that quarterback Tom Brady's injured right hand had only black tape on it and that he practiced in full, while defensive tackle Malcom Brown and defensive end Deatrich Wise were limited during the practice.
