Cinnamon Pacers win by 22 runs as Clove Challengers get knocked out of the tournament

Chasing a steep total of 144 was always going to require some special batting performance from one of the Challenger batsmen. Initially, it looked like Darron Nedd will don that costume and play the blinder of an inninng, but as it turns out, nothing of that sort transpired this evening at the National Stadium.

After the end of the powerplay overs, the game was evenly poised as Challengers managed to reach 36/0. However, the innings and its wheels started to come off afterwards as Angel Johnson departed after an excruciating run-a-ball 14 run inning that severely dented the momentum for his side.

Under pressure to tee off on every ball, Nedd went down valiantly, scoring a 21 ball 42 runs inning laced with two boundaries and 4 huge maximums. However, his departure meant that Challengers lost the initiative and slowly succumbed to their fate which had sealed their exit from the tournament at the halfway stage of the match.

Imran Joseph and skipper Cyprian Forsyth didn't drop the towel outrightly and managed to smoke some crisp maximums to delay the inevitable. However, 33 runs to chase in the final over proved to be too big of a task against the experienced bowling of Micah Narine. In the end, it was a tame end to the contest that had the potential to become a proper blockbuster.

Cinnamon Pacers lock their spot in the top-2 and march into the knockouts, feeling gung-ho about having two opportunities to make it to the final whilst their opponents Clove Challengers, with their heads down, quietly exit the tournament.

So that was that from our side. This is Abhinav Singh and my partner Bala signing off. Until next time, stay safe, stay indoors and get vaccinated ASAP! Goodnight and Good bye!

9.6 Micah Narine to Cyprian Forsyth, slower ball on a length, drags it across the line to deep mid-wicket for a single
9.6 Micah Narine to Cyprian Forsyth, angles into the right-hander but slides down the leg as Forsyth tries to pick it over fineleg
9.5 Micah Narine to Cyprian Forsyth, jumps out of the crease and has a wild swing across the line. Gets no bat on it though
9.4 Micah Narine to Imran Joseph, tries to make a bit of room but Narine follows him with a yorker. Gets an inside edge onto the pad
9.3 Micah Narine to Cyprian Forsyth, low full toss on middle and leg, can't get underneath it. Drives it down the ground to long-on
9.2 Micah Narine to Imran Joseph, fuller delivery angling into middle and leg. Doesn't get the timing right this time. Gets a thickish inside edge to deep mid-wicket
9.1 Micah Narine to Imran Joseph, SIX! Oh, my! Slower delivery short of a length. Joseph hangs back and muscles it over the bowler's head for a maximum. Are we onto something here?
Skipper Micah Narine [1-0-4-0], right-arm, fast-medium, summons himself to bowl the final over from over the wicket

Both Imran Joseph and Cyprian Forsyth tried their level best to smoke every ball out of the park and to some extent managed to be successful as well. However, Challengers require 33 runs off the last 6 deliveries. It certainly isn't impossible but it will certainly take some epic hitting from the duo to take their team home!

8.6 Kyron Andrew to Imran Joseph, almightly heave across the line, but gets not bat on the length delivery. Bit of a fumble by the keeper allows them to collect a bye
8.5 Kyron Andrew to Imran Joseph, SIX! Short and wide of the off-stump. Cuts it right out of the middle of the bat over the extra cover boundary. This onslaught has come a bit too late for the Challengers
8.4 Kyron Andrew to Imran Joseph, SIX! Murderous hit! Length ball on the stumps, Joseph charges down the wicker and launches it straight back over the bowler's head. That travelled at a rate of knots over long-on
8.3 Kyron Andrew to Cyprian Forsyth, full ball outside off, mistimes the big hit to wide long-off for a single
8.2 Kyron Andrew to Cyprian Forsyth, SIX! It's out of here! Length delivery from Andrew, Forsyth clears the front leg and mows it over the mid-wicket region. It's a huge hit and clears the stands! New balls, please! 47 required in 10 balls
8.1 Kyron Andrew to Imran Joseph, fuller delivery angling into the right-hander, drives it down the ground to long-on for a single
Kyron Andrew, right-arm, fast-medium to bowl the penultimate over from over the wicket

A big over for Challengers and it is certain that they are not dropping the towel just now. Joseph has come out all guns blazing and he is only dealing in boundaries. Still a long way to go but he has given a glimmer of hope to the Challenger's dugout! 54 required in the final 12 deliveries

7.6 Chard Charles to Cyprian Forsyth, SIX! Drops it short this time. Forsyth rocks back and pulls it over the cow corner fence for another maximum. Expensive outing for Charles. Went for a couple in the first over but then cricket happened to him in the final over!
