Anthony Richardson

Anthony Dashawn Richardson Sr. is an American football quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. The Colts selected him as the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He made his debut in the season opener of the 2023 NFL season against Jacksonville Jaguars. Richardson started four games in his rookie year finishing with a record of 2-2. After his rushing touchdown in Week 3, he became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to score a rushing touchdown in each of his first three starts. Richardson sustained a sequence of injuries in October 2023 ruling him out of the season in his rookie year. He made a return in 2024 starting the first five games for the Colts with a record of 3-2, as of October 2024.

Growing up in Florida, Richardson attended Eastside High School in Gainesville. Richardson led his team to the FHSAA Class 5A playoffs in 2018 with a record of 7-4. He finished his high school career with 4,633 passing yards for 37 touchdowns over four seasons. Richardson also played varsity basketball in high school and also featured in a Netflix series. Richardson Sr. committed to the University of Florida playing for the Gators in 2020. He appeared in 24 games over three seasons completing 215 passes for 3,105 yards in his collegiate career.

Anthony Richardson Jersey Number

Anthony Richardson wears the number 5 with the Indianapolis Colts, as of October 2024. Richardson chose a number from his youth football days in Miami following his draft in 2023. In an interview according to IndyStar, he mentioned the reason behind his number 5 saying: “That was the first number I had playing football in Miami, whenever I was little. I feel like that’s what set the foundation for me.”

Richardson wore the number 2 for a long time in his football career. According to IndyStar, Richardson picked the number 2 as a tribute to Cam Newton. After getting into college football, Richardson Sr. switched his number to 15 after a fan at the Gators convinced him to get it as Tim Tebow had the same number, according to IndyStar.

The quarterback has also been ignoring the number 15 following the controversy because of his nickname “AR-15” in Gainesville. In a social media post which reflected on the nickname, Richardson said: "While a nickname is only a nickname and 'AR-15' was simply a representation of my initials combined with my jersey number, it is important to me that my name and brand are no longer associated with the assault rifle that has been used in mass shootings, which I do not condone in any way or form.”
