James Earl Conner is an American football running back for the Arizona Cardinals as of the 2024 NFL season. The 6-foot-1 back was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft with the 105th overall pick. The Pennsylvania native has played for two NFL franchises as of 2024. He started his pro career with the Steelers but didn’t start any games for the team in his rookie season. Even though he suffered a lower leg injury and missed some time in his sophomore campaign, he broke out big time by rushing for 973 yards and accumulating 497 receiving yards (career-high) in just 13 games. Nevertheless, injuries plagued him for the next two seasons at Pittsburgh and limited him to just 23 games during that span.

Since coming to Arizona in 2021, Conner has gone over 750 rushing yards in each of his first three seasons with the Cardinals, including a 1,000-yard rushing season (career-best) in 2023. The 29-year-old signed a two-year $19 million extension with the Cardinals in November 2024. The two-time Pro Bowler attended the University of Pittsburgh from 2013 to 2016. Conner recorded 1,765 and 1,092 rushing yards in 2014 and 2016 respectively, for which he was named to the first-team All-ACC in both those years.
