For all the ardent fans of the NFL out there Jerry Rice is one of those players whose name ranks in the top 10 or even maybe the top 5 of the greatest players of all time list. Such are his accomplishments as a wide receiver that even the second placed players are quite a distance away from his records.

Rice was known for his insane work ethic. Being a comparatively small receiver at 6 feet 2 inches and around 200 lb., he didn’t have the ideal body to excel at the position with aggressive defensive backs always ready to pounce on him. However, it was his mental side of the game where he was the strongest. He knew how to get open, he is still to this day one of the greatest route runners the league has ever seen.

As a kid, Rice used to chase after horses to help improve his speed. Never the fastest guy on the field, but he had a way of getting in front of the defenders and then losing them to find the open area of the field. For Rice training was always on a different level as in order to improve his hands he would catch bricks out in the son.

Funnily enough, the former great wideout did not have football in his thoughts until the age of sixteen when he started playing. Until then, he proclaimed that he was basically more into academics. But it seems destiny had other plans for Rice and it is safe to say that he made the most of those.

How many Super Bowls did Jerry Rice win?

In total, Jerry Rice played in four Super Bowls in his career and he won the first three of those. While playing with the San Francisco 49ers, he developed a great bond with the team’s starting quarterbacks in each of his Super Bowl-winning years.

By the time Jerry was selected by the 49ers and developed into a great starting wide receiver, Joe Montana was already an established star on the team. The duo had a lot of success together and brought two Super Bowls to the franchise.

After Montana left the team, Rice again found excellent chemistry with Steve Young and they were also able to hoist the Lombardi Trophy once in their five years together.

Jerry Rice in Super Bowls

Jerry Rice won his first ever ring in Super Bowl XXIII which took place on January 22, 1989. The 49ers went up against the Cincinnati Bengals and won a close 20-16 game. Catching 11 passes for 215 yards, Rice set Super Bowl records for both categories. He also had one touchdown in those 11 receptions and as a result, he was named the Super Bowl MVP.

After a successful 1988 season, the duo of Jerry Rice and Joe Montana were back again the next year continuing from where they left off the previous year. Once again the 49ers featured in the title game in Super Bowl XXIV where they completely steamrolled the Denver Broncos 55-10. Rice had 7 receptions for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns, but the MVP went to Montana for his fine 5 touchdown 297-yard performance on 22 of 29 completions.

Steve Young and Jerry Rice then led the 49ers to another Championship game this time in Super Bowl XXIX where San Francisco crushed the then San Diego Chargers (Los Angeles Chargers) 49-26. Jerry Rice once again showed up in the big game with 10 receptions for 149 yards and 3 touchdowns, but again lost out on the MVP to Young who had an impressive 325 passing yards and 6 touchdowns.

Jerry Rice’s last Super Bowl appearance came in Super Bowl XXXVII as a member of the then Oakland Raiders (Las Vegas Raiders), but this was the first time he came out on the losing side as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers overpowered the Raiders 48-21. Rice himself only had 5 catches for 77 yards and 1 touchdown.
